Special Focus op Ethiopië

This year puts special focus on the feature film TEZA. This film by award-winning director Haile Gerima landed the biggest prize at FESPACO, the largest Pan African Film Festival, in Ougadougou in Burkina Faso. This award, the l'Étalon de Yennenga, is considered the African Oscar.

In collaboration with Stichting Ethiopië Morgen, Africa in the Picture is highlighting the splendid country of Ethiopia tonight. After the screening, there will be a debate on the theme of this film: the situation that existed during dictator Mengistu’s Marxist reign of terror. The central question this evening is what the significance of this period is for Ethiopians today. Particularly for Ethiopians in the diaspora who left their own country and for young people who have not gone through this period.
