Maghreb in the Picture

a selection of recent films from North Africa

This year’s programme includes the award-winning Algerian short film ILS SE SONT TUS, in which reality and dream are interwoven. A DJ working at night routinely comes home early in the morning. He goes to bed and sleeps like a log, but is he really sleeping? An extremely lively and colourful picture of life in an Algerian town, with a slightly surrealistic tone.

And more Moroccan productions, such as the South Berber feature film SQUELETTE, in which a man returns to the village where he was born after having lived in the city for years. The bespoke documentary NOS LIEUX L'INTERDIT reports on the Committee for Truth and Reconciliation that was set up to settle scores with the repression of the 70s and 80s.
