Highlights of recent film production from the African continent

This year's programme includes recent films from South Africa, Cameroon, Algeria, Ethiopia, Angola, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal and Egypt, among others.

In our South African opening film, JERUSALEMA, the hero Lucky Kunene (played by Rapulana Seiphemo known for the Oscar-winning film ‘Tsotsi’) tries to make luck come his way. After the country’s first free elections, Lucky embarks upon a career as a taxi driver and ends up in the highest echelons of organized crime. In this fast-paced action film, Lucky makes many enemies and has the police on his tail.

The penetrating Kenyan documentary IN MY GENES by the young filmmaker Lupita Nyong'o presents various portraits of African albinos. This beautifully depicted portrayal gives the viewer a good picture of a very visible and yet also invisible group of people.
