Born Manuel, an orphan since birth, he is trained by Mestre Alípio, a great master of capoeira who tries to teach the vain boy the virtues of concentration, justice, and the true reason he has been blessed with extraordinary skills: to defend the black people who live under virtual slavery in the dawn of the 20th century in Brazil.
