African diaspora

African diaspora aims at making films by directors of African origin with a unique range of films this year once more from the African continent and the African diaspora, North and South America, Europe and the Caribbean.

This year’s opening film, PANMAN, RHYTHM OF THE PALMS, is the first independent film produced on Saint Maarten and directed by Sander Burger, who was born on the Ivory Coast. The film is about the Caribbean icon steel pan player Harry Daniel who discovers the burdens of being a leader.
Another film from the diaspora is the American film by Dennis Dortch, A GOOD DAY TO BE BLACK AND SEXY, a daring and sexy film about the myths and truths with regard to black sexuality.
