Football is not just a game, especially in Africa. BLACK STARS shows us the different dimensions of the African Cup of Nations, the biggest football tournament on African soil. We get a multi-angular picture of the Ghanaian team’s progress. The film lets us see again that there is more to Africa than war and poverty; that there is above all beauty, talent and pride.

Driven by a passion for football and for Africa, four students set off for the adventure of filming the Africa Cup 2008. With a small budget, Jurre de Beer, Sammie van Dorp, Simon Kwekkeboom and Josse Govaart tell us their story in their first film about football in Africa.
