Bitú is a painter. He paints both walls as well as “art paintings” in bars, dancings, building façades or billboards. But it’s during Mindelo’s Carnival that Bitu expresses all his imagination and creativity. Through Bitu, this film launches a wide-eyed gaze at the contemporary arts production that is being made at Mindelo city, in Cape Verde.
Leão Lopes, born in Cape Verde, directed the first Cape Verdean film ever made, Ilhéu da Contenda, in 1996. He Graduated in Plastic Arts from the Beaux Arts College in Lisbon, Portugal, and taught visual arts at the University of Rennes II in France.
