Hortense, a 40-year old nurse from the Ivory Coast, leaves her family for her lover,
Jean-Paul, an oyster farmer. Malik, a macho and a very traditional man, sees his whole world turn upside down and stays behind with his children to discover that his oldest son is homosexual. The arrival of beautiful Amina, the lonely neighbor, and of Malik’s sisters in law from Adidjan, provokes quite a few surprising turns. A fresh look at the African community in Bordeaux.
Director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun was born in Chad and lives since 1982 in France. His first film was BYE BYE AFRICA in 1999. His second film ABOUNA (2002) won the
Best Cinematography Award at the FESPACO and DARATT (2006) picked up the Grand Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
