Kevin, a youngster from the second generation of Algerian immigrants, led by schoolmate Meriem, throws himself into the Holy Quran and changes his name to Mohammed. When Meriem is away on holidays, Mohamed comes under the influence of a group of radical young Muslims. To the great sorrow of his modern, liberal parents, he changes into a religious fanatic. A beautifully acted and sober drama, the film won the 21st Century Filmmaker Award for best European film.
Since 1985, Ahmed Bouchaâla has been working on TV commercials, music videos and concerts. He wrote and directed C’EST LA HAINE (1993). With Zakia, he wrote KRIM (1995) and ORIGINE CONTROLEE (2001), which picked up the award for best French film at the New York Film Festival.
