Abeeda, a pious single Muslim mother in Cape Town who wears traditional garment and prays five times a day, becomes hooked on gambling after a trip to the casino. When she discovers that one of her sons is dying of AIDS, she finds consolation in gambling. She soon loses everything. What remains are debts and connections with dangerous criminals. A lively portrait of the Muslim community in Cape Town, of creed and of addiction; based on co-director Rayda Jacobs’ book.

Amanda Lane attended the AFDA Film Academy. She is the writer and director of the TV-drama ZONE 14 and now is working on a feature film.
Rayda Jacobs is an author and documentary filmmaker. She made PORTRAIT OF MUSLIM WOMEN and GOD HAS MANY NAMES.
