Speaking of Congo

Organized in cooperation with various social organizations, these film evenings will highlight a particular country.

Fri September 5th
9.30 pm:M’KATABA by Petna Ndaliko Katondolo is a short Congolese film about the lives of two different, but special people. ON THE RUMBA RIVER by Jacques Sarasin is a musical tribute to “Papa Wendo”, Wendo Kolosy, father of the Congolese rumba, who died on 28 July 2008.

Friday September 5th, 7.00 pm
UNE MORT DE STYLE COLONIAL: PATRICE LUMUMBA, UNE TRAGÉDIE AFRICAINE by Thomas Giefer is a revealing documentary about the assassination of Patrice Lumumba. Before the film, Alphonse Okatende Muambi, in 2006 an international observer in Congo during the first free elections since 1960, will read from his new book ‘Democratie kun je niet eten’ (You cannot eat democracy). After the film there will be room for a debate.
In cooperation with Dhr M. Biampata M’Pongo from Msaada/CNS and Dhr Alphonse Muabi from the foundation Africa & Education.

Sat September 6th
5.00 pm:KINSHASA 2.0 by Teboho Edkins is a short film about the arrest of Marie-Thérese Nlandu, a judge and leader of the Congo-Pax political party. VICTOIRE TERMINUS KINSHASA by Renaud Barret and Florent de la Tullaye is an energetic documentary about four women who try to survive by boxing, in Congo where tensions from the first free elections rule.
