Africa in the Picture will platform an interactive debate about the consequences for the Kenyan youth on the political crises and the new leadership in Kenya, organised by AITP and MFAF.
Sparked by the disputed results of the December 2007 elections, when ruling president Kibaki was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) over opposition leader Raila Odinga despite many indications otherwise, violence erupted especially in the Rift Valley and western parts of Kenya, until a political settlement was signed between the rivalling parties in February through mediation of Kofi Anna. The human and economic toll of the violence has been catastrophic for all Kenyans, and the effects resonate around the greater East African region. The prolonged stand-off between the two parties and the subsequent violence and lawlessness have damaged Kenyans' confidence in the nation and each other, and seriously hurt the country's standing in the world. The debate will voice the opinions of the Kenyan youth on the recent crises.

The Media Focus on Africa Foundation (MFAF) was founded in 2001 by a group of media practitioners inspired by the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The primary point of departure for the founders was that improved flows of quality information among people living on the African continent would build societies that were better informed on priority issues of democratization and human development. Additional, was the premise that locally produced and contextualized media programs could substantially contribute to the efforts of African societies to identify shared interests, values and norms, and "African solutions for African problems".
