What role did France and Belgium play in the political, social and economic perils of young independent African states? What visible traces remind us of these ambivalent times? What have been the consequences of this up to this very day? The documentary series Schaduwen over Frans Afrika (Shadows over French Africa) investigate the assassinations of three historical African leaders - Patrice Lumumba from Congo, Thomas Sankara from Burkina Faso and Félix Moumié from Cameroon.

There will be lectures and debates on the themes of FRATRICIDE AU BURKINA: THOMAS SANKARA ET LA FRANCAFRIQUE, MORT À GENÈVE: L’EMPOISONNEMENT DE FELIX MOUMIÉ and UNE MORT DE STYLE COLONIALE – PATRICE LUMUMBA, UNE TRAGÉDIE AFRICAINE, led by Alphonse Muabi - in 2006 international observer in Congo during the first real free elections since 1960 and author of the book ‘Democratie kun je niet eten’ (You cannot eat democracy) and by Joseph Junior Seh, anthropologist and development expert.
