YOUR HOOD IN THE PICTURE

This summer AFRICA IN THE PICTURE and AT5 Film Productions are unleashing an actual battle. Youths from the neighbourhoods Oud-West, Centrum, Bos en Lommer, Slotervaart and Zuidoost are up against each other: which team can create the most original and comic short film about their ‘hood ’?

Each eighbourhood is represented by a team of three aspiring young filmmakers, who have followed a workshop at AT5, led by film and TV professionals. During this crash course they are given instructions on filming, screen writing and editing. The participants are challenged to present their hoods on film in a uniquely comic way and from their cultural point of view. This will result in five three-minute films.

The films will premiere in the neighbourhoods in which they were created, during the free open air cinemas, which AFRICA IN THE PICTURE organizes from August 31 -September 5. It goes without saying that the entire neighbourhood is invited. The winning short film of Your Hood in the Picture will be chosen by a professional jury and announced during the opening on September 6 in Rialto cinema in Amsterdam. The winning short will receive a prize. The team’s first video impressions can be viewed at GESPOT.at5.nl and www.africainthepicture.nl during August. The shorts will also be broadcast on AT5 in September.
