Through the story of Abdelkader, Messaoud and Yassir, director Rachid Bouchareb depicts an almost forgotten historical fact: that during WWII, more than 130, 000 soldiers from the French colonies fought to free France and Europe from the Nazis. Each of the film’s main characters joins the battle in Europe for different reasons, but when they are liberating a small town in the Alsace, they all stand in front of the same German battalion.
