When Adoum, a young journalist, finally receives his passport he is able to travel abroad to report on the situation in his country. During a search at the airport, however, an enigmatic and dangerous letter is discovered in his possession. As a result Adoum is incarcerated in one of Colonel Koulbou’s brutal underground prisons. Mr. Klara, Adoum’s friend, learns of his capture and warns Nicole, his fiancée. All hope seems lost, but nobody is counting on Hawa, Koulbou’s fresh young wife, who is fed up with being abused.
