Maghreb in the Picture

Maghreb in the Picture offers a double focus this year: the first is on female ‘fighters’, like those in Barakat! by Djamila Sahraoui, a story set against the Algerian civil war of the 1990’s; the second is on the French Beurcinéma, a cinema that sprung from the banlieues of Paris, and is hugely popular amongst the North Africans
