Very different from the political realism of Vivre au Paradis, his film about migrants in the sixties, with Zaïna, Bourlem Guerdjou tells a story in the tradition of 1001 Nights and the western. The film is set in an era long gone; Zaïna is hiking with her father through the Atlas Mountains, on the way to the Agdal, an important race for thoroughbred horses in Marrakech. The connection between father and daughter and the changing position of the young woman are presented as powerful and timeless themes. Bourlem Guerdjou was born in France. He is director, and producer. In 1987 he created his first short film Ring and in 1998 his first long feature film Vivre au Paradis. In 2005 he finished Zaïna, Rider of the Atlas, his second long feature film.
