Sell Off

The Maroons of Surinam, descendants of escaped African slaves, have preserved their culture in their jungle refuge. But things will change rapidly if the Surinamese government continues to sell off their traditional land. The Dutch Joshka Wessels worked in development projects in Haiti, Sudan, Yemen, and Syria before embarking on her film making career with the BBC. She has made various productions, such as Above Board; Trading Timber Legally (2006), and Darfur: Earth, Wind and Fire (2005).
