This film penetrates the heart like a sharp knife. Black South Afican women are attacked and raped because they are lesbian. There is no use in going to the police, they are simply outlawed. Slowly, women are starting to work together in order to find protection against this indescribable violence. Lovinsa Kavuma, a Ugandan-born British filmmaker, completed her BA honors film degree at the prestigious London College of Printing. In 2003, during the civil war in Congo, Kavuma uncovered the desolation of child soldiers. She also initiated and developed stories for BBC’s Newsround. Her short docudrama, Kintu, received awards at international film festivals. Rape for Who I Am is her most personal documentary. This film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival, London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, and the Festival Cinema Africano.
