Once Upon a Time in the Oued (Il Était une Fois Dans l’Oued)

Johnny and Yacine are friends in the banlieue. French Johnny, who calls himself Abdel-Bachir, dreams of opening a grocery shop in Algeria. What Yacine wants most is to escape his Algerian father and an arranged marriage. After the enormous success of Boys on the Beach, Jamel Bensalah presents his new comedy, which, as well as having a funny plot, is a warm portrait of Algeria in the 1980s. DJamel Bensalah was born in France. His first short film Y’a du foutage dans l’air (1996) featured Jamel Debbouze, who also played in his first feature film Ciel, les oiseaux et... ta mère! (1998). After Le Raid (2002), Once upon a time in the Oued (Il était une fois dans l’Oued) is his third feature film.
