Haïti, 1971. Fifteen year old Fanfan is fascinated by the pretty girls next door, who in turn are enthralled by the Tontons macoute, notorious death squads in sunglasses. When dictator Papa Doc dies, his son Baby Doc comes to power. Against the backdrop of tense political circumstances, the Tontons macoute dance and drink the tropical night away, their weapons never out of reach. Naïve Fanfan is forced to grow up quicker than he expected – but as long as a pretty neighbour is involved, who’s complaining? John L’Écuyer is an independent film maker and a television director. He grew up in Montreal, the city to which he later returned. Of his hand are the prize winning Curtis’s Charm (1995), Confessions of a Rabid Dog (1997), and On the Verge of a Fever.
