There is no other place on earth as the jambalaya of cultures of New Orleans, a city of musical genius where Congo Square, Indian Mardi Gras, the Caribbean and the French Quarter dance to a common tune, where Blacks and Whites jammed together in the depths of the segregationist South, where all of modern popular music has its source. On April 27, 2004 the Make it Funky concert was organized to get to the roots of the New Orleans sound, which the film follows by echoing its greats: Fats Domino, Earl Palmer, Little Richard, Art Neville… Michael Murphy is founder of the production company Michael Murphy Productions (MMP), which specialises in music productions. Together with Cilista Eberle he made documentaries about, among others, Allen Toussaint and Fats Domino. His most recent project is Make it Funky! The New Orleans Concert.
