Through the story of Abdelkader, Messaoud and Yassir, director Rachid Bouchareb depicts an almost forgotten historical fact: that during WWII, more than 130, 000 soldiers from the French colonies fought to free France and Europe from the Nazis. Each of the film’s main characters joins the battle in Europe for different reasons, but when they are liberating a small town in the Alsace, they all stand in front of the same German battalion. Dutch première. Rachib Bouchareb was born in Paris, 1953. He has made various musical reports, videos and registrations for French television. Amongst other thing he produced the much praised feature La vie de Jésus (Bruno Dumont). His first feature film was Bâton rouge (1985), followed by Cheb (1991), Poussières de Vie (1994) and Little Senegal (2001).
