Road movie about a trip from Capetown to Johannesburg. Against the idyllic backdrop of
a small settlement, South-Africa’s history is omnipresent. Beautiful colonial ranches, children playing, drugged out teenagers, wise old men, ballroom dancing and a subliminal ancestral presence all share this careless space. For youngsters away from Capetown this is an oasis where they can shake off their identity issues. Remarkable film about a generation that is not only facing the future, but want to do right by history as well. Maganthrie Pillay is the first black female film maker in South Africa. She grew up in an Indian township near Durban. Her debut in feature film 34 South cost 8 year, a time in which she gave birth to two children and directed various documentaries and theatre productions.
