Long before Brokeback Mountain there was the African love story of Manga and Sori in Guinea. Together they study, kiss and make love. When they tell their families about their love they are forced to separate. Their parents try to cure the ‘(love)sick’ men with African rituals. As the years pass by, both Manga and Sori start new lives and families of their own, but nothing will make them forget about what they shared. Destined to each other, they finally leave their families to be together. Mohamed Camara (Guinea, 1959) has worked extensively in film as an actor ever since his film debut in La Très bonnelle nouvelle (1986). His film directing debut was the short film Denko (1993), which won several festival awards. Dakan is Camara’s feature film debut and won the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding Foreign Narrative Feature at the 1998 L.A. Outfest.
