Lively British coming-of-age film about black men in their thirties, wrestling with their identity. Responsibility for income or children does not fit their self image, but ‘Cherpsing’ does. The definition? Acting playfully, in a sexual inviting way. The awkward side-effect is that these elderly youths stay stuck in noncommittal flirting, while the idea of having to be a black rebel marginalises them socially. Cherps avoids shunning emotion or criticism on racist self images, and ends on a feel good note, with a regained appreciation for fatherhood. Kolton Lee was born of Caribbean parents in London. He was an international basketball player until he was injured. He studied English literature and became a journalist. After finishing his film studies he has made documentaries, drama and feature films, such as American Mod (2000), Blood (2005) and Cherps (2006).
