At the beginning of the 1990s, Merzak Allouache secretly filmed Bab el Oued City, a film about the rise of fundamentalism. Bab el Web is shot in the Bab el Oued area of Algiers, and this time, the cameras were allowed everywhere to film this comedy about two brothers, Bouzid and Kamel, who dream about their return to France. When Laurence, Bouzid’s online girlfriend, an--nounces by email that she will be visiting, the brothers do everything to welcome her in the best possible way. Merzak Allouache was born in Algiers, studied Film in France, and debuted in 1976 with the comedy Omar Gatlato. He made documentaries about Algeria. Bab El Qued City (1994) was rewarded in Cannes with the price of the international critics. In 2005 he produced Bab el Web.
