The history of African cinema has many films about the contradiction between modernity and respect for tradition in contemporary African societies. Do young African (Diaspora) cineastes today feel the historical burden of this cinema in their topical choices? Respected African film makers are often trained in the West and many of them live there for at least part of the year. The advent of digital camera technology has allowed young talents to tell their stories in their own way about their own world.
